FORT WAYNE TURNERS
3636 Parnell Avenue
6:30 PM CEREMONY | 7:00 PM GAME TIME
The annual Rager-Stiverson Memorial Softball Game is a charity game created in the early 1970s to honor the lives of two Fort Wayne first responders who died in the line of duty: Michael Thomas Rager, Fort Wayne Fire Department District Chief, who died in 1972; and Patrolman Kenneth P. Stiverson, who died in 1969.
While the game is quite competitive for both departments, each wanting bragging rights, the event is also used as a fundraiser for charity. In 2019, the event raised nearly $2,000.
“It’s pretty wild when you think about it, I mean that this event is still going on 50 years later? To have this kind of tradition that brings our local firefighters and police officers together, you know we have a good group of brothers and sisters, and it’s nice to be able to come out once a year, play a great game, raise money for charity, and pay respect to those two individuals,” says Firefighter Union President, Jeremy Bush.
